Carolyn M. Brown is an award-winning journalist, features writer, and editor with a broad background as a nonfiction author, playwright, producer, multimedia content producer and events (live and virtual) facilitator. She has a robust track record curating innovative projects across print, digital, broadcast, and theatrical platforms.
For over three decades, she has developed compelling narratives and insightful industry articles on a wide range of topics. Publication credits include Inc, Forbes, Success, Entrepreneur, The Source, Black Enterprise, Essence, and Executive Woman.
Carolyn is a 2012 GLAAD Media Award Winner and 2013 Nominee in the Outstanding Magazine Article category. She is a co-author of the Literary Award-winning book Climb: Taking Every Step with Conviction, Courage, and Calculated Risk to Achieve a Thriving Career and a Successful Life (Open Lens). She penned two other books, The Millionaires Cub (Wiley) and Nobody’s Business But Your Own (Hyperion).
As founder and principal of the social enterprise, True Colors Project, she has produced theatrical performances and has piloted multidisciplinary events like My True Colors Festival (MTCF) and My True Colors Excel Pride Awards. For nearly a decade, MTCF showcased the works of independent artists of varying backgrounds across multiple disciplines (theater, film, dance, etc.).
Carolyn holds the distinction of being one of the youngest playwrights to have a staged reading at the Schomburg Center for Research In Black Culture - New York Public Library, with the play she co-write, Accessories. As Co-Founder and Lead Producer at All In Black And White Productions LLC, she presided over business operations for Staged Readings, Equity Showcases, and Off-Off-Broadway productions (2006- 2011).
More recently, she produced the film shorts (re-imagined 10 minute plays) Ditmus by award-winning playwright Glenn Alterman and Reckoner by Emmy-award winning screenwriter Scott Sickles as part of the 2023 and 2025 TRUSPEAK Hear Our Voices Festival, respectively.
Carolyn is a proud member of the Dramatist Guild and a grant recipient of the Brooklyn Arts Council, Puffin Foundation, Tri-M Foundation, New Jersey Theatre Alliance, and the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre.
